…The Book

50 Commandments You May Not Be Following. This book walks you through 50 commandments of the New Testament and guides you through the process of weaving them into your life. Many people today believe that commandments are not important. The Bible tells us however, that the “behavioral guidelines” listed in the Bible are the true litmus test for Christianity.
Believe it or not…

I started writing the Live Man Walking Series for myself. I was preparing for a Sunday Morning Message one night when I ran across a verse that stood me on my head. Sure I had read this verse before, but for some reason, this time, God asked me to pay closer attention to its meaning. The verse was in John chapter 14 and read:

“If you love me, you will obey what I command.”

It was like Jesus was talking to me personally. So I started looking into the context of what He was saying and who He was talking to. And the more I read, the more uncertain I became about what exactly His commands were. Later in the same chapter I read:

” Jesus replied, “If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.”

So for more than two years now I have been searching for “the commandments, the teachings, and the guidelines” that Jesus was talking about. I used to think it was the 10 commandments but as it turns out, the change that is evident in Christians is described in literally hundreds of verses throughout the Bible.

In the New New Testament alone, I was shocked to find more than 160 of these behavioral guidelines.

Let me explain a little further.
Jesus listed the two greatest commandments as being (1) Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind and with all your strength and (2) love you neighbor as yourself. But then, throughout the rest of the New Testament, there are key behavioral guidelines that are being taught by the disciples as being passed down from the Master Himself.

It’s true that they could probably all fall under the umbrella of Love God and Love Your Neighbor, but why would the commandments be there if they were not important? I believe that Jesus was making it as easy as He could for you and me. That’s why he placed these traffic signals and caution signs along the way. He knew me before I was born and therefore, He knew that I needed more examples to living life. He knew that if He left the interpretation up to me, that I would get it wrong.

For convenience sake, I have taken 50 of the commandments I found and placed them into the first volume of Live Man Walking. It is meant to be used as a study supplement to your Bible. Live Man Walking is about reading the Word of God and changing your behavior to match it.

This blog is the place to discuss the book.
So let’s get started.
